末法の本仏の立場で法華経一部二十八品を直弟子日興上人に口伝した書【御義口伝 下】要点解説(52)



第十六  此品の時の、不軽菩薩の体の事 (注)

 御義口伝に云く、不軽菩薩とは十界の衆生なり、三世常住の礼拝の行を立つるなり(注)。

 吐く所の語言は妙法の音声なり。(注)。
 獄卒が杖を取つて罪人を呵責するが、体の礼拝なり。敢て軽慢せざるなり。

 罪人、我を責め成すと思えば、不軽菩薩を呵責するなり、折伏の行、是なり。


此品の時の不軽菩薩の体の事
ここの章では、不軽菩薩という菩薩の実体について、日蓮大聖人が末法の法門の上から解き明かされております。

三世常住の礼拝の行を立つるなり
末法今日においては、日蓮大聖人が御図現なされた十界曼荼羅の御本尊に南無妙法蓮華と唱える「唱題行」と拝されます。

吐く所の語言は、妙法の音声なり 
末法今日に於いて「妙法の音声」とは、日蓮大聖人が建長5年(1253年)4月28日の早朝、故郷安房の蒿(かさ)ヶ森から朝日に向かった唱えた「南無妙法蓮華」であると拝します。

Banishment to Sado

文永八年十月初旬 五十歳御作

The beginning of October 1271. Fifty years old.


九月十二日に()勘気(かんき)(こうむり)て今年十月十日佐渡の国へまかり候なり。

On the twelfth day of the ninth month, I incurred the wrath of the government authorities, and on the tenth day of the tenth month of this year, I am to leave for the province of Sado.

On the twelfth day of September, I incurred the wrath of the government authorities, and on the tenth day of October of this year, I am to leave for the country of Sado.

(もと)より学文し候し事は、仏教をきはめて仏になり、恩ある人をもたすけんと思ふ。

From the beginning, I pursued my studies because I wanted to master Buddhism and attain Buddhahood, and also to save the people to whom I am indebted.

仏になる道は、必ず身命をすつるほどの事ありてこそ仏にはなり候らめ()()からる。

It seems to me that on the path to attain Buddhahood it may invariably be when one has done something like lay down one’s life that one becomes a Buddha.

It seems to me that one becomes Buddha when one is going to abandon one's life while hoping to attain Buddhahood.

(すで)経文(きょうもん)のごとく悪口(あっく)罵詈(めり)(とう)(じょう)()(りゃく)数数見擯(さくさくけんひん)(ずい)と説かれてかかるめに()い候こそ、法華経をよむにて候らめと、いよいよ信心もおこり()(しょう)もたのもしく候。

I think that perhaps it is encountering such difficulties as have already been explained in the sutra—being cursed, vilified, attacked with swords and staves, shards and rubble, and banished again and again—that is reading the Lotus Sutra with one’s life. My faith springs up all the more, and I am confident about my next existence.

The sutra's texts have already preached it; cursed, vilified, attacked with swords and staves, shards and rubble and banished again and again. I am encountering such difficulties and am applying the Lotus Sutra to myself. Therefore, my faiths become strong, and I can hope about my future life.

死して候はば、必ず各各(おのおの)をもたすけたてまつるべし。

If I should die, I will definitely also save each of you.

If I should die, I will definitely save each of you too.

Gosho 転重軽受法門 Lightly Receiving a Heavy Sin of Previous Life

昔の悪王の御時、多くの聖僧の難に()ひ候ひけるには、又所従眷属(けんぞく)等・弟子檀那(だんな)()くそばくかなげ()き候ひけんと、今をもちて()()かり候。

From the present situation, I can well imagine how followers, relatives, disciples, and lay supporters must have grieved in the past when during the reigns of evil kings so many of their sage monks met persecution.

When many sage priests encountered a persecution during the reigns of evil kings in the past, I can well imagine it from the present situation. The priest's followers, relatives, disciples, and lay supporters must have grieved.

(いま)日蓮、法華経一部()みて候。

Nichiren has now read [and lived] the entirety of the Lotus Sutra.

Nichiren has now read all the Lotus Sutra itself.

一句・一偈(いちげ)(なお)受記(じゅき)()ほれり。(いか)(いわん)や一部をやと、いよいよ()のもし。

Even a single phrase or verse assures one’s enlightenment; since I have read the entire sutra, how much more certain is my enlightenment. I am more confident than ever.

Even a single phrase or verse are assuring my Buddhahood, to say nothing of the whole sutra. It will never fail me.

(ただ)をほけなく国土までとこそ()もひて候へども、我と用ひられぬ世なれば力及ばず。

Though I may sound presumptuous, my most fervent wish is to realize the security and peace of the entire land. In an age when none will heed me, however, it is beyond my power.

Though I wished to spread it to the country, in an age when nobody will espouse me, it is beyond my power.

しげ()きゆへに()ゞめ候ひ(おわ)んぬ。

I will close now to keep this brief.
