Persecution by Swords and Staves 2

I do not know how long I or anyone else may live, but without fail, I will be with you at the time of your death and guide you from this life to the next.

Exert yourselfExert yourself in your practice. I do not know when you or I will die, but when you reach the crossroads of life and death, I will surely come to guide you.

All the Buddhas of the past, present, and future attain enlightenment during the hours of the ox and the tiger.

All Buddhas throughout the three existences attain their Buddhahood between the beginning of the hour of the Ox and the end of the hour of the Tiger.

In all three countries of India, China, and Japan, the place of Buddhist prayer is located to the northeast, in the direction of the demon gate.

The site of Buddhist practice is placed in the direction of the Demon Gate, the northeast, in all three countries of India, China and Japan.

These are profound teachings of Buddhism, which are reverently transferred from teacher to disciple.

This is the teaching of Buddhism transmitted from master to disciple.

Persecution by Swords and Staves 1

 Be that as it may, commit yourself to the Lotus Sutra and have faith in its teachings.

 By all means, you must believe in and devote yourself to the Lotus Sutra.

 You must not only believe in them yourself but also encourage others to do the same, so that you may save those who were your parents in all your past existences.

Not only you must do so; encourage everyone in your family to take faith so your deceased parents and ancestors will be saved.

From the time that I was born until today, I have never known a moment’s ease;

Since I was born, I, Nichiren, have spent not one day, not even one moment, at leisure.

I have thought only of propagating the daimoku of the Lotus Sutra.

I have focused solely upon the propagation of the Daimoku of the Lotus Sutra.

Now, in theLatter Day of the Law, neither the Lotus Sutra nor the other sutras lead to enlightenment. Only Nam-myoho-renge-kyo can do so.

Now, in this age of the Latter Day of theLaw, neither the Lotus Sutra nor the other sutras have the power to save the people. Only Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo can lead all people to Buddhahood.

This is not my own judgment.

This is not just my own interpretation.

Shakyamuni, Many Treasures, the Buddhas of the ten directions, and the bodhisattvas who emerged from the earth as numerous as the dust particles of a thousand worlds have so determined it.

It is the Judgement of Shakyamuni Buddha,Taho Buddha and all the Buddhas in the ten directions as well as the innumerable Bodhisattvas of the Earth.

 To mix other practices with this Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is a grave error.

It is a grave offense to mix Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo with other teachings.

A lantern is useless when the sun rises.

After the sun has risen, of what use is a lamp

How can dewdrops be beneficial when the rain falls?
 When rain falls, are not dewdrops superfluous

Should one feed a newborn baby anything other than its mother’s milk?

Would a mother feed her newborn infant anything other than her own milk.?

No addition of other medicines is needed with a good medicine.

 With good medicine, it is not necessary to add any other ingredients.
