Happiness in This World

建治二年六月二十七日　五十五歳御作

June 6, 1276.Fifty-five years old.

苦をば苦とさとり、楽をば楽とひらき、苦楽ともに思ひ合はせて、南無妙法蓮華経とうちと(唱)なへゐ(居)させ給へ。

Suffer what there is to suffer, enjoy what there is to enjoy. Regard both suffering and joy as facts of life, and continue chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, no matter what happens.

Understand sufferings with sufferings, enjoy what enjoy greatly, cogitate putting suffering and joy together, and continue chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.

これあに自(じ)受(じゅ)法楽(ほうらく)にあらずや。

How could this be anything other than the boundless joy of the Law?

Isn't this very 'the boundless joy from the Law'?

いよいよ強(ごう)盛(じょう)の信力をいた(致)し給へ。

Strengthen your power of faith more than ever.

Bring forth the power of your faiths more strongly more actively!
