16. Tokiyori Pardons Nichiren. (6)

They go the Wakamiya thoroughfare. A passerby knowing Nichiren raises a voice in wonder when they come near the hall of the Matsuba valley.

“Everybody, priest Nichiren came back cheerily!”.

Both Nichiren and Nikko spend time in front of a hall with deep emotion.

Kumao boy found them and embraced Nichiren in full speed.

The woman of the store chats up him.

“Welcome home. Dear priest”.

It is an ironical thing.

When he left Kamakura, the people laughed, but they completely changed and celebrated him when was pardoned.

Believers of more than 100 waited for a return of Nichiren in a hall.

Teacher Nichiren is not a criminal anymore. The faces which overflowed in joy gather.

Shijo Kingo and Toki Jonin and others met them with a smile. Nichigannnyo of the wife of Kingo hold a baby in her arms.

Nichiren exchanged with greetings to each one and found a baby before long.

"Oh, this...".

Shijo Kingo lowered the head deeply.

“Thanks to you, she got well. I could not know what happened for a time. This is the force of the marvelous Law of Buddha”.

Hearing the recovery of the condition of the baby of Kingo whom Nichiren trusts, his joy is not ordinary.

“Of course, it is the power of the Lotus Sutra. However, the real reason is that there was the strength of the faiths of the couple. The illness disappeared away because it was brave faiths. Well, let's see what you've got”.

Nichiren received a baby quietly and dandled her and he frolicked as if together with his child. As if there has been not the trouble of the banishment at all.

Kingo stared and heartily thought it the good fortune that his baby was embraced by the priest.


The sun begins to sink to the place of Matsuba Valley.

Believers gathered because Nichiren would preach after an interval of two years.

The Nembutsu monk of the black robe either comes. People looked from a window too.

 “I was pardoned and was able to return to Kamakura now. This is because lord Kamakura knew that this punishment has been caused from the slander of the vassals. Like the propagation of Tientai and Dengyo, one should determine the right or wrong of the Law of Buddha in the public place. What will it mean evading because they cannot win in the argument of the doctrine of Buddhism, entrapping the Buddhist priest of the partner to sin? To block teachings of Buddha is to threaten a country. This depends on evil of the Nembutsu and Zen Buddhism, not is an error of the politics. The Lotus Sutra says; "Even the present of the Buddha still had much jealousy. To say nothing of after Buddha". There was the persecution even at the time of Master Buddha. Besides there is still more in the wicked world of the latter days of the Law now. I realized it in this persecution deeply in my mind. A difficulty befalls for certain if everybody chants Nam-myoho-renge-kyo aloud. In addition, not a marvelous Law of Buddha if not so. To become Buddha is not difficult but to keep the Lotus Sutra is difficult”.
