Attaining Buddhahood in this lifetime

There are not two lands, pure or impure in themselves.

The pure land and impure lands are not separate realms.

The difference lies solely in the good or evil of our minds.

The goodness or evil of our hearts and minds determines the nature of the land.

It is the same with a Buddha and an ordinary being.

The same is true for a Buddha and a common mortal.

When deluded, one is called an ordinary being, but when enlightened, one is called a Buddha.

While deluded, one is called a common mortal, but once enlightened, one is called a Buddha.

This is similar to a tarnished mirror that will shine like a jewel when polished.

For example, even a tarnished mirror will shine like a jewel when it is polished.

A mind now clouded by the illusions of the innate darkness of life is like a tarnished mirror, but when polished, it is sure to become like a clear mirror, reflecting the essential nature of phenomena and the true aspect of reality.

Likewise, a mind that is presently clouded by illusions originating from the fundamental darkness of life is like a tarnished mirror. Yet, once it is polished, it will become a clear mirror of absolute truth.

Arouse deep faith, and diligently polish your mirror day and night.

Arouse deep faith and polish your mirror night and day without neglect.

How should you polish it?

Only by chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.

You should do so by single-mindedly chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo.
