On practicing according to the Buddha’s teachings

The four seasons continually repeat themselves, each in turn manifesting its own characteristics.

Each season gives way to the next.

In summer it is hot; in winter, cold. Flowers blossom in spring, and fruit ripens in autumn.

In summer it gets hot, in winter it gets cold, in spring flowers bloom, and in autumn trees bear fruit.

Therefore, it is only natural to sow seeds in spring and reap the harvest in fall.

In spring, one should sow seeds to harvest in autumn.

If one sowed in autumn, could one harvest in spring?

If seeds are planted in autumn, one will be unable to harvest the fruit in spring.

Heavy clothing is useful in bitter cold, but of what use is it in sweltering heat?

During the freezing weather, thick clothes are necessary, while under the intense heat of summer, they are not.

A cool breeze is pleasant in summer, but what good is it in winter?

A cool wind is comfortable in summer, but it only intensifies the chill of winter.
