Gosho 当体義抄 The Entity of the Mystic Law

(ただ)し此等の大師等も南無妙法蓮華経と唱うる事を()(ぎょう)真実の内証(ないしょう)(おぼし)()されしなり、

But even these great teachers recited Nam-myoho-renge-kyo as their private practice, and in their hearts they understood these words to be the truth.

Nonetheless, they chanted Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo because they realized deep in their mind that chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo was the true practice for themselves.

南岳(なんがく)大師の法華懺法(せんぽう)に云く「南無妙法蓮華経」文、

Thus the Great Teacher Nan-yüeh in his Method of Repentance through the Lotus Sutra employs the words Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.

In the document possessed by the Great Teacher Nanyue titled Repentance through the Lotus Sutra there is a reference to Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo.”

天台大師の云く「南無平等大慧(だいえ)一乗妙法蓮華経」文、又云く「稽首(けいしゅ)妙法蓮華経」云云、又「()(みょう)妙法蓮華経」云云、

The Great Teacher T’ien-t’ai employs the words Nam-byōdō-daie-ichijō-myoho-renge-kyo, Keishu-myoho-renge-kyo, and Kimyō-myoho-renge-kyo.

The Great Teacher Tiantai stated,to devote oneself to the Buddha’s wisdom, which enables all living beings equally to attain Buddhahood, namely, Myoho-Renge-Kyo of the one vehicle of Buddhahood,”“to worship Myoho-Renge-Kyo,and to devote oneself to Myoho-Renge-Kyo.”

伝教大師の最後臨終の十生(じっしょう)(がん)の記に云く「南無妙法蓮華経」云云

And the document concerning the vow taken by the Great Teacher Dengyō on his deathbed carries the words Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.

In one of his writings, the Great Teacher Dengyō, referred to Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo,” as he expressed his desire to be born into the Buddha’s pure land at the moment of death.
