The Meaning of Sacred Teachings of the Buddha’s lifetime

The Outline of the Buddha’s Sacred teachings Taught throughout his Life

天台大師・此(こ)の法門を覚(さと)り給うて後・玄(げん)義(ぎ)十巻・文句(もんぐ)十巻・覚(かく)意(い)三昧(ざんまい)・小止観・浄名疏(じょうみょうしょ)・四念処(ねんじょ)・次第(しだい)禅門(ぜんもん)等の多くの法門を説き給いしかども此の一念三千をば談義し給はず、

After the Great Teacher T’ien-t’ai gained enlightenment into this doctrine of three thousand realms in a single moment of life, he preached various works such as Profound Meaning in ten volumes, Words and Phrases in ten volumes, The Mind-Perceiving Meditation, The Essentials of Concentration and Insight, commentaries on the Vimalakīrti Sutra, The Four Meditations, and The Teaching of the Practice of Meditation, but in these works he did not touch on the doctrine of three thousand realms in a single moment of life.

After the Great Teacher Tiantai realized this doctrine [of ichinen sanzen（three thousand realms in a single life-moment）], he expounded a number of other related doctrines in writings such as the ten volumes of the Profound meaning of the Lotus Sutra, the ten volumes of the Words and Phrases of the Lotus sutra, The Mind-Perceiving Meditation, The Essentials of Concentration and Insight, Annotations on the Vimalakirti Sutra, The Four Meditations, and The Teaching of the Practice of Meditation. However, in theses texts, he did not expound the doctrine of ichinen sanzen.

但(ただ)十界・百界・千如(せんにょ)の法門ばかりにておはしませしなり、

He merely discussed the Ten Worlds, the hundred worlds, and the thousand factors.

He merely taught the doctrines of the ten worlds, one hundred worlds, and one thousand factors.
