瑞相御書(ずいそうごしょ)
On Omens

　　建治元年 五十四歳 御作。

　　1275 (Age: 54)

夫(それ)十方(じっぽう)は依(え)報(ほう)なり、衆生は正報(しょうほう)なり。譬(たと)へば依報は影のごとし、正報は体(たい)のごとし。

　The ten directions are the “environment,” and living beings are “life.” To illustrate, environment is like the shadow, and life, the body.

　The ten directions are the objective environment, while living beings are the subjective self. The objective environment is like the shadow, and the subjective self is like the body.
