Gosho 教機時国抄 On the Teaching, Capacity, Time, and Country

法華経第四に云く「而(しか)も此の経は如来の現在にすら猶怨(なおおん)嫉(しつ)多し況(いわん)や滅度の後(のち)をや」等と云云、

The fourth volume of the Lotus Sutra states, “Since hatred and jealousy toward this sutra abound even when the Thus Come One is in the world, how much more will this be so after his passing?”.

The fourth volume of the Lotus Sutra teaches, “One who teaches the Lotus Sutra will be detested by others even during Shakyamuni’s lifetime. How much worse will this be after his passing？”.

同じく第五に云く「一切世間怨(あだ)多くして信じ難(がた)し」と、

The fifth volume says, “It will face much hostility in the world and be difficult to believe”.

The fifth volume of the Lotus Sutra states, “In this world, one will encounter much hostility, and it will be difficult to believe [in the Lotus Sutra].

又云く「我身(しん)命(みょう)を愛せず但(ただ)無(む)上道(じょうどう)を惜(おし)む」と、

The same volume also reads, “We care nothing for our bodies or lives but are anxious only for the unsurpassed way”.

The sutra also states, “We do not hold our own lives dear but seek only the unsurpassed way”.

同第六に云く「自ら身命を惜まず」と云云、

And the sixth volume reads, “Not hesitating even if it costs them their lives".

The sixth volume of the Lotus Sutra expounds,“We do not begrudge our lives”.
