Gosho 持妙法華問答抄 Questions and Answers on Embracing the Lotus Sutra

し(強)ゐてあながちに電光朝(ちょう)露(ろ)の名(みょう)利(り)をば貪(むさぼ)るべからず、

Surely you should not spend your time thoughtlessly coveting worldly fame and profit, which are as fleeting as a bolt of lightning or the morning dew.

You should not seek momentary fame and personal profit, which will vanish like a flash of lightening or the morning dew.

「三界(さんがい)無(む)安(あん)・猶(ゆ)如(にょ)火(か)宅(たく)」は如来の教へ「所以(しょい)諸法・如幻(にょげん)如化(にょけ)」は菩薩の詞(ことば)なり、

As the Thus Come One teaches, “There is no safety in the threefold world; it is like a burning house.” And in the words of a bodhisattva, “All things are like a phantom, like a magically conjured image.”

The Buddha states,“There is no safety in the threefold world; it is like a burning house.”Furthermore, the Bodhisattva stated,“Every single phenomenon is like an illusion that has no substantial existence.”

寂光(じゃっこう)の都ならずは何(いず)くも皆(みな)苦なるべし

　Everywhere other than the Capital of Tranquil Light is a realm of suffering.

　Apart from the land of eternally tranquil light where the Buddha resides, every realm is a place of suffering.

　本覚の栖(すみか)を離れて何事か楽みなるべき、

　 Once you leave the haven of inherent enlightenment, what is there to bring you joy?

　 If we leave the realm of [the Buddha’s] original enlightenment, what joy can we find?
