GOSHO 立正安国論53 施を止めて命を絶つ 三


 主人の(いわ)く、余は是れ頑愚(がんぐ)にして(あえ)(けん)を存せず、(ただ)経文に()いて(いささ)か所存を述べん、

The host said: There is no doubt that I am the foolish one—I would never dare claim to be wise. However, I would just like to quote some passages from the scriptures and offer some brief thoughts.

The host replied: Indeed, I am rigid, foolish, and far from sagacious. I would, however, like to share with you some of my ideas based on the sutras.

(そもそ)()(じゅつ)(むね)内外(ないげ)の間、其の文幾多(いくばく)ぞや、(つぶさ)()ぐ可きこと(かた)し、

Concerning the means for insuring order in the nation, there are numerous passages in both Buddhist and non-Buddhist texts, and it would be difficult to cite them all here.

Concerning the methods of restoring order, numerous examples are illustrated in both Buddhist and non-Buddhist scriptures, and citing each and every one would be an arduous task.

(ただ)し仏道に入つて(しばし)愚案(ぐあん)(めぐら)すに、(ほう)(ぼう)の人を(いまし)めて正道の(りょ)を重んぜば、国中(こくちゅう)安穏(あんのん)にして天下泰平(たいへい)ならん。

Since taking up the study of Buddhism, however, I have frequently given thought to this matter, and it seems to me that restraining those who slander the Law and respecting the followers of the correct way will assure stability within the nation and peace in the world at large.

 Nonetheless, as I ponder on such methods in light of the Buddhist teachings, I am compelled to conclude that the peace and tranquility of the entire nation will be ensured if those committing slanderous acts are strictly corrected, and priests practicing the correct way are held in high esteem.
