GOSHO 立正安国論50 勘状の奏非 三

()の上涅槃経(ねはんぎょう)に云く「()(ぜん)比丘(びく)あつて法を()ぶる者を見て置いて呵責(かしゃく)()(けん)()(しょ)せずんば、(まさ)に知るべし、是の人は仏法の中の(あだ)なり、

Moreover, the Nirvana Sutra states: “If even a good monk sees someone destroying the teaching and disregards him, failing to reproach him, to oust him, or to punish him for his offense, then you should realize that that monk is betraying the Buddha’s teaching.

Moreover, the Nirvana Sutra states: Suppose a decent priest becomes aware of one who slanders the correct law. If he lets the slanderer be, without reproaching, expelling, and correcting him by exposing his faults, we should know that this priest is an enemy of Buddhism.

()()()(けん)()(しゃく)()(しょ)せば、是れ我が弟子・真の声聞(しょうもん)なり」と

But if he ousts the destroyer of the Law, reproaches him, or punishes him, then he is my disciple and a true voice-hearer.”

One the other hand, if this priest expels, reproaches, and corrects the slanderer by exposing his faults, this priest is my disciples as well as a true practitioner of my teachings.

()(ぜん)比丘(びく)()()らずと(いえど)も「仏法中怨(ちゅうおん)」の(せめ)(のが)れんが為に(ただ)大綱(たいこう)()つて(ほぼ)一端(いったん)を示す。

Although I may not be a “good monk,” I certainly do not want to be accused of “betraying the Buddha’s teaching.” Therefore, in order to avoid such charges, I have cited a few general principles and given a rough explanation of the matter.

I do not deserve to be called a decent priest. However, I have provided a general overview of the Buddhist teachings and revealed a fraction [Hōnen’s of slanders] in order to avoid accusations that I am an enemy of Buddhism
