You are, as the saying goes, deliberately blowing back the fur and hunting for flaws in the leather, deliberately piercing the skin in hopes of drawing blood.

What you are doing is like searching for a scar on the scalp by parting the hair or drawing blood by picking a scab.

From ancient times to the present, the world has never seen such a speaker of evil. You had better learn a little caution and restraint. When you pile up such grave offenses, how can you hope to escape punishment?

Until today, I have never heard of such abusive language. To say such things is so dreadful. You should be fearful of what you say. The negative karma you accumulate from this will be extremely heavy. Do you think you could ever possibly evade the karmic retribution you will receive as a consequence

I am afraid even to sit here in your company. I must take up my staff and be on my way!

I am fearful to even sit face to face with you. I should pick up may cane and leave!

The host, smiling, restrained his guest and said: Insects that live on smartweed forget how bitter it tastes; those who stay long in privies forget how foul the smell is.

Smiling, the host stopped him and said: Those who always eat smartweed become numb to its pungent taste. Those who stay long in an outhouse are not bothered by the offensive odor.

Those who always eatsmartweed become numb to its bitter. Those who are in toilet forget how smelly the smell is.

Here you listen to my good words and think them wicked, point to a slanderer of the Law and call him a sage, mistrust a correct teacher and take him for an evil priest. Your confusion is great indeed, and your offense anything but light.

Likewise [ when one is under the influence of erroneous teachings ], he will take good words as bad, call a slander of the correct Law a sage, and suspect a true master to be an evil priest. The illusion he harbors is extremely profound and the offense he commits is grave.

Listen to my explanation of how this confusion arose, and let us discuss the matter in detail.

If you are willing to hear about how the Buddhist teachings were distorted, I will explain it to you in detail.
