GOSHO 立正安国論14 災難の証拠十

仁王経に云(いわ)く「大王、吾が今化(け)する所の百億の須(しゅ)弥(み)・百億の日月・一一の須(しゅ)弥(み)に四天下(てんげ)有り、

In the Benevolent Kings Sutra [the Buddha addresses King Prasenajit with these words]: “Great King, the region where my teachings now hold sway consists of one billion Sumeru worlds with one billion suns and moons. Each of these Sumeru worlds comprises four continents.

The Sutra of the Benevolent King states: Great King, the reach of my current teaching encompasses ten billion worlds, in which there are ten billion Mount Sumerus, each with its own sun and moon. Surrounding each Mount Sumeru, there are four continents.

The Benevolent Kings Sutra says: “The great king, the region where my teachings now hold sway consists of ten billion Mt. Sumeru and ten billion suns and moons. Surrounding each Mount Sumeru, there are four continents".

其の南閻(なんえん)浮提(ぶだい)に十六の大国・五百の中国・十千の小国有り

In the southern continent of Jambudvīpa, there are sixteen great states, five hundred middle-sized states, and ten thousand small states.

In the southern continent, there are sixteen large countries, five hundred medium-size countries, and ten thousand small countries.

In its southern continent, there are sixteen big countries, medium-sized countries of five hundred, and ten thousand small-sized countries.

其(そ)の国土の中に七つの畏(おそ)る可き難有り、一切の国王是(これ)を難と為すが故に、

In these states, seven types of fearful disasters may occur. All the rulers of these states agree that these are indeed disasters.

In these countries there are seven kinds of disaster to be feared, and all kings similarly regard them as such.

云(い)何(か)なるを難と為す

What, then, are these disasters?

What then constitutes disaster?

What kind of disaster do you think it to be?

日月度(ど)を失い・時節返逆(ほんぎゃく)し・或(あるい)は赤(しゃく)日(にち)出で・黒日(こくにち)出で・二三四五の日出で・或は日蝕(しょく)して光無く・或は日輪一重・二三四五重輪現(げん)ずるを一の難と為すなり、

“When the sun and moon depart from their regular courses,when the seasons come in the wrong order, when a red sun or a black sun appears, when two, three, four, or five suns appear at the same time, when the sun is eclipsed and loses its light, or when one, two, three, four, or five coronas appear around the sun, this is the first disaster.

When the sun and moon move irregularly; the seasons are reversed; a red sun appears; a black sun appears; two, three, four, or five suns line up side by side; loss of light due to solar eclipse; the sun has one, two, three, four, or five rings―any of these comprise the first kind of disaster.

“The sun and moon move irregularly and the seasons appear in the wrong order. A red sun or a black sun appears, and two, three, four, or five suns come out the same time, the sun is eclipsed and loses its light. And when one, two, three, four, or five rings appear around the sun, this is the first disaster.
