Gosho 観心本尊抄四 The True Object of Worship 11

吉蔵(きちぞう)(しょ)に云く「()とは(ほん)じて具足と()す」

In his commentary Chi-tsang writes, “Sad is translated as perfect endowment.”

In Jizangs Annotations on the Meaning of the Lotus Sutra it states,” Sha is translated as complete”

天台大師云く「()とは梵語(ぼんご)なり(ここ)には妙と翻ず」等云云、

The Great Teacher T`ien-t’ai remarks, “Sad is a Sanskrit word, which is translated as myo, or wonderful.”

The great Teacher Tiantai stated,Sha is a Sanskrit word, and is translated as the Chinese character `Myo`.

私に会通(えつう)を加えば本文を(けがす)が如し

If I add my own interpretation,
it will be as if I had profaned these passages,

 Compared to their interpretations, mine may be insufficient.

(しか)りと(いえど)も文の心は釈尊の因行(いんぎょう)()(とく)の二法は妙法蓮華経の五字に()(そく)

but inessence they mean that Shakyamuni’s practices and the virtues he consequently attained are all contained within the five characters of Myoho-renge-kyo.

However, the true meaning of these passages is as follows: The practices that Shakyamuni carried out and the virtues he consequently acquired are all contained in the five characters of Myoho-Renge-Kyo.

我等()の五字を受持すれば自然(じねん)()の因果の功徳を(ゆず)り与え給う、

If we believe in these five characters, we will naturally be granted the same benefits as he was.

If we embrace these characters, the same virtues that Shakyamuni gained will naturally be bestowed upon us.
