Articles to be Observed after the Passing of Nikko.


Clauses that should be maintained after Nikko.


一、本門寺建立(こんりゅう)の時は新田卿(にいだきょう)阿闍(あじゃ)()日目を座主(ざす)と為し、日本乃至(ないし)一閻浮提(いちえんぶだい)の内、山寺等に()いて、半分は日目嫡子分(ちゃくしぶん)として管領せしむべし、残るところの半分は自余の大衆等(これ)領掌(りょうしょう)すべし。

When Hommonji Temple is established, Ni`ida-Kyō Ajari Nichimoku shall be designated as the master of the Seat of the Law. Nichimoku, as the legitimate successor, should govern half of the temples located in the country of Japan and in the rest of the world, while the remaining half should be managed by others within the priesthood.

一、日興が身に()て給はるところの弘安二年の大御本尊は日目に(これ)を相伝す、

The Dai-Gohonzon of the second year of Kō`an(1279), which Nikko inherited [from Nichiren Daishonin], is hereby bequeathed to Nichimoku.

 本門寺に()け奉るべし。

一、大石寺(たいせきじ)御堂(みどう)と云い墓所(むしょ)と云い日目之れを管領し、修理を加え勤行(ごんぎょう)(いた)し、広宣(こうせん)流布(るふ)を待つべきなり。

(みぎ)日目は十五の才、日興に()い法華を信じてより以来七十三才の老体に至るも()えて違失(いしつ)の義無し。

As mentioned, Nichimoku encountered Nikko for the first time when he was 15 years old. From the time he took faith in the Lotus Sutra until the old age of 73 years, he has not deviated [from the Daishonin`s Buddhism] in the least.

十七の(とし)、日蓮聖人の所に詣で(甲州身延山)御在生(ございしょう)七年の間常随(じょうずい)給仕(きゅうじ)し、御遷化(ごせんげ)の後、弘安八年より元徳二年に至る五十年の間、奏聞(そうもん)の功、他に異なるに()つて()くの如く書き置くところなり、

 At age of 17, Nichimoku had an audience with Nichiren Daishonin at Mount Minobu in Kōshū Province. Nichimoku faithfully and constantly served his master for the last seven years of Nchiren Daisyonin's life. After his master's passing, Nichimoku devoted himself to remonstrating with the Imperial Court for fifty long years, from the eighth year of Kō`an (1285) until the second year of Gentoku (1330). Such achievements are superior to those of the other priests.

  At age of 17, Nichimoku had paid a visit to Nichiren Daishonin at Mount Minobu in Koshu Province and he faithfully and constantly served his master for the last seven years of Nchiren Daisyonin's life. After his master had passed away, Nichimoku devoted himself to remonstrating with the Imperial Court for fifty years from the eighth year of Ko'an (1285) until the second year of Gentoku (1330). I write down because such achievements are different with the other priests.
