GOSYO 御義口伝下 寿量品15

廿五(にじゅうご)建立(こんりゅう)御本尊等の事

Point Twenty-five,concerning the establishment of the Gohonzon
Regarding the Gohonzon that has been established:

御義口伝に云く、此の本尊の()(もん)とは如来秘密神通之力(じんつうしりき)の文なり、

The Record of the Orally TransmittedTeachings says: This Gohonzon is based on the passage that reads, “the Thus Come One’s secret and his transcendental powers” (chapter sixteen).
The Master (Nichiren Daishonin) states: The basis of this Ghonzon is found in the passage, ”the Tathagata’s secret and his wondrous power."

戒定慧の三学、寿量品の事の三大秘法()れなり、

The three types of learning, namely, precepts, meditation, and wisdom, are represented by the Three Great Secret Laws embodied in the “Life Span” chapter.
This passage indicates the three types of learning; precepts, meditation, and wisdom, namely, the actual Three Great Laws [ hidden in the depths ] of the Life Span on the Tathagata chapter of the Lotus Sutra.

日蓮(たしか)に霊山に於て面授(めんじゅ)()(けつ)せしなり、

At Holy Eagle Peak, Nichiren without question faced the Buddha and received oral instruction from him in these three great laws.
Nichiren, indeed, directly received the transmission of the essence of the Lotus Sutra at Eagle Peak.

本尊とは法華経の行者の一身の当体なり云云。

The Gohonzon is thus the entity of the entire life of the votary of the Lotus Sutra.
The true object of worship is the very life of the votary of the Lotus Sutra.
