GOSYO 御義口伝上10


「二死の(おもて)に出づるを上行と(なづ)け、

 “To transcend the two types of death is known as Superior Practices.

 ”The name Jōgyō signifies the liberation from the two kinds of birth and death.


断常の(きわ)()ゆるを無辺(むへん)(ぎょう)と称し、

 To go beyond the two opposing views that life is cut off after one existence or that it is eternally the same is called Boundless Practices.

 The name Muhengyō signifies transcending the false views on the extinction and eternity of life.


五住の()(るい)()ゆる故に浄行と名け、

 Because one overcomes the five categories of illusions and entanglements, that state is designated Pure Practices.

 The name Jougyō indicates surmounting the five fundamental sources of earthly desires.


道樹にして徳(まど)かなり、故に安立行と曰うなり」、

 And because one is as perfect in virtue as the bodhi tree, that state is named Firmly Established Practices.”

 The name Anryūgyō signifies the virtues that are complete as a result of the enlightenment attained under the Bodhi tree.”


今日蓮等の類南無妙法蓮華経と唱え奉る者は皆地涌(じゆ)流類(るるい)なり。

 Nichiren and his followers, who now chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, are all followers of these bodhisattvas who emerged from the earth.
 Nichiren and his followers who chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo, all belong to the same lineage of the Bodhisattvas of the Earth.
