Gosho 御義口伝（就註法華経口伝）上 Orally Transmitted teachings on the Lotus Sutra Part 1

　日蓮は生年卅(さん)二(じゅうに)より南無妙法蓮華経を護念(ごねん)するなり。

　Nichiren since the thirty-second year of his life has guarded and kept in mind Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.

　今日蓮等の類い聖霊(しょうりょう)を訪(とぶら)う時、法華経を読誦(どくじゅ)し南無妙法蓮華経と唱え奉る時・題目の光無間(むけん)に至りて即身成仏せしむ、

　Now when Nichiren and his followers perform ceremonies for the deceased, reciting the Lotus Sutra [Gohonzon and Daishonin's writings] and chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, the ray of light from the daimoku reaches all the way to the hell of incessant suffering and makes it possible for them to attain Buddhahood then and there.

廻向(えこう)の文此れより事起るなり、

　This is the origin of the prayers for transference of merit for the deceased.

　法華不信の人は堕在(だざい)無間なれども、題目の光を以て孝子法華の行者として訪わんに豈(あに)此の義に替(か)わる可しや。

　Even if persons who had no faith in the Lotus Sutra have fallen into the hell of incessant suffering, as practitioners of the Lotus Sutra their filial off spring may offer them the ray of light from the daimoku. How could this principle be any different than it is in the case of persons who have faith in the sutra?

　今日蓮等の類(たぐ)いは無問(むもん)自説なり、

　Now Nichiren and his followers also take it on themselves to preach without being asked.

　念仏無間・禅天魔・真言亡国・律国賊と喚(さけ)ぶ事は無問自説なり、

　When they declare that the Nembutsu leads to the hell of incessant suffering, that Zen is the teaching of the heavenly devil, that True Word will ruin the nation, and that Precepts is traitorous, they are taking it upon themselves to preach without being asked.

　三類の強敵(ごうてき)来る事は此の故なり。

　Because they do so, the three types of powerful enemies have appeared on the scene.
