4 Nichiren Starts Propagation in Kamakura(3)

                      Japanese ver.

Nichiren preached Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo that was the title of the Lotus Sutra directly. He preaches it regardless of the ability of a person hearing immediately. Shakubuku meant this.

On the contrary, Shakyamuni induced all creatures adversely for more than 40 years. He preached various law to preach the Lotus Sutra that was the core of Buddha Law. ‘Be set, and develop ability’ means this. Shakyamuni needed 40 several years tobegin to preach the Lotus Sutra that was long-cherished hope of the success in life.

Nichiren was different from Shakyamuni and preached the core of the Lotus Sutra promptly.

This method is shown in "24th, the Bodhisattva Never Disparaging" of the Lotus Sutra. It is Shyakubuku that preached when the Bodhisattva Never Disparaging (note) appearing there does not discriminate to all public, and said that "there is life (the paradise of Buddha) of Buddha to all creatures".

The public does not have the relationship of the Lotus Sutra.

‘Originally not being yet of goodness’ (note) means this. Therefore, the public had malicetoward the Bodhisattva Never Disparaging and persecuted the bodhisattva with a stick and a tree and a tile and a stone. Nichiren inherits fate of the Bodhisattva Never Disparaging, too.

Nichikan (note) of the Nichiren Shōsyū 26th preaches it.

“And our sect father Daishonin in a book (A Sage Knows the Three Existences of Life) ‘Nichiren is the votary of the Lotus Sutra. I succeeded to the method of the Never Disparaging.’ Daishonin said in this way and completely did shakubuku and propagated it like the Bodhisattva Never Disparaging. Therefore, Daishonin propagated the Essential Teaching of Life Span of the Lotus Sutra forcibly promptly in Japan without gradually preparing the ability without making the means repeatedly like Shakyamuni did.” In other words, the present all creatures of the Latter Day of the Law are because it is a state of ‘Originally not being yet of goodness.’”

Note

Bodhisattva Never Disparaging

The b0dhisattva who is preached in the chapter of the Bodhisattva Always Never Disparaging. Bodhisattva Always Never Disparaging is the different name. He appeared in the Middle Day of the Law, the post mortem period of the Authority Sound King Buddha. Because he preached the Lotus Sutra of 24 characters saying that all creatures had the Buddha-nature and worshiped all creatures and did not look down upon them, he was called Never Disparaging Bodhisattva. People looked down on him, and persecuted him bya stick tree, a tile and a stone, but he did not stop practices of the worship. Shakyamuni Buddha preaches a method of the post mortem propagation of Buddha and a merit of the reverse relationship through bodhisattva practices.

Nichiren Daishonin preached that he and his followers who chant to Myoho-Renge-Kyo in the Latter Day of the Law is the Never Disparaging Bodhisattva.

Point 10, on the words: ‘they heard his preaching, they all took faith in him and showed allegiance and obeyed and followed.’

The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings says: The word “heard” refers to the stage of hearing the name. After all, it is the daimoku to anger forcibly. “All” means to the four kinds of believers who are arrogance. “Faith” refers to the faith or belief that is without doubt. “Showed allegiance” means showing allegiance to the Lotus Sutra. “Obey” means that one’s mind is dedicated to the Lotus Sutra. “Follow”means that one’s body is dedicated to the Lotus Sutra. After all, this is saying that now Nichiren and his followers, practitioners of the Lotus Sutra who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, are the Bodhisattva Never Disparaging of the Latter Day of the Law.”

(Thirty important point of the chapter in the Bodhisattva Always NeverDisparaging )

Originally not being yet of goodness

The inborn capacity of all creatures has two kinds of the "Originally there is already goodness” and “Originally not being yet of goodness" "The goodness" means a seed to become Buddha, and it isnecessary to plant the seed called Myoho-renge-Kyo because there is not this seed as for the all creatures in the Latter Day of Law. Shakubuku which is a professor method of the Latter Day of the Law has significance to plant the seed of Myoho-renge-Kyo to the all creatures of “Originally not being yet of goodness."
