Journey to Home (3)

                  Japanese version

Renchō came further to the east along the coast and came to the penal point of Tatsunokuchi (the mouth of the dragon).

He could see Enoshima Island.
There was a penalty on the other side of this island. Now the high-rise buildings are lined up, surrounded by surfers and tourists, but at that time they were executions places. Even now, human bones that are supposed to have been executed have been found near here.

People were gathering here.

A sinner was drawn out.

There was a hole in the center of the sandy beach for dropping the neck.

The official tells a crime sentence.

"This person steals in Kamakura, and the crime is not shallow. It is a behavior not suitable for the inhabitants of the capital, although the regionis famine and food scarce. Therefore behead him.”

The officer in charge of beheading took out a sword bluntly.

The sinner who had been quiet until now has hurried out as soon as he was blindfolded.
"No, please help me, I do not want to die."
The officials surrounds him, hold the sinner, and pushe the neck into the hole.
The sinner shook her head.
The officer chanted "Namu-Amida-Butsu", dropping the sinner's neck in a single swing.
The scream of the crowd sounded.

Renchō passes through Wakamiya main street.
It is a gentle uphill slope.

There was Tsuruoka Hachiman Shrine in the distance.

Hachiman Shrine was erected by Yoriyoshi Minamoto. Yoshiyoshi built shrine in the Yui district of Kamakura with the separated spirits of Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine in Kyoto, and made it as Genji's goddess.

Since descendant Yoritomo settled the Kantō Region, Hachiman became the god of all the samurai. Thus, any warrior who follows Genji worshiped Hachiman.

"Travel to East", a travelogue of the same era as "Recordof sea and Land", briefly describes the origins of Hachiman Shrine.

“In the first place, this Kamakura's origins, the deceased right generals Yoritomo was born in the family of samurai as the descendant of the ninth generation of Emperor Seiwa. Yoritomo led the soldiers of loyalty to attack the enemies of the courtroom at the end of the Zishō era. Yoritomo set up the shogunate on this land and built a temple and shrine in this place, it became a prosperous land now. Especially in the Hachiman shrine of Tsuruoka, green of pine and oak grows steadily, and there is no time when the offerings of god will end. The concert of the four seasons is held after the musical instrument performers are determined, and in August a festival is held to release living things. The ceremony that worships god says it does not differ from Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine as a source.

The slow straight road continues from Hachiman shrine to the sea.

The group of cavalry come down quietly from Hachiman Shrine on this road.

The one riding in the horse is Hojo Tokiyori, eldest son is Tokisuke, the second child's Tokimune and further underling continue.

Tokiyori is the regent of the Kamakura shogunate. He was young at the age of 27.

The regent is under the command of General Kamakura on the standpoint, but was steering that general. Because regent was holding military power. Therefore, it is said that Tokiyori of the regent is the real landlord of Japan and is the emperor.

Father and children proceed faithfully through Wakamiya Main Street.

The roadside crowd lowered his head avoiding the way.

"That is Saimyōji Temple."

Tokimune entered priesthood at Zen temple Saimyōji. People called him Saimyōji Temple.

"I heard that it is a samurai with kindness."

"No, he seems to have built a temple and spend the country's storage."

"Shit, the voice is high."

Seven years old Tokisuke approaches his father's horse. His face is dark while being a boy.

"Father, is it true that you will quit your regent?"

Tokimune replies.

"I have not planned to quit yet. However, I also have ten years to handle the shogunate. It will be time to retire soon.”

Then the younger brother 's Tokimune approached. Tokimune is only 5 years old.

Unlike Tokisuke, his cheeks were shining.

"Father, now it is not time to retire. There are many people who criticize us Hōjō. The shogunate is safe if father is there. "

His brother Tokisuke explicitly had a bad face on him.

Each brother and mother is different. And whether the pedigree does it, they competed against each other for everything.

Tokiyori laughed.

"Do not worry, I am arranging for your future"

Father and children drove a horse with power.

That dust sprinkled on Renchō.
