Gosho 開目抄上 Liberation from Blindness.

所謂(いわゆる)周の()(おう)には五老きたりつかえ後漢(ごかん)光武(こうぶ)には二十八宿(しゅく)(きた)つて二十八将となりし(これ)なり、

Such were theso-called Five Elders who gathered about and assisted King Wu of the Chou dynasty, or the twenty-eight generals of Emperor Kuang-wu of the Later Han, who were likened to the twenty-eight constellations of the sky.

Good example include King Wu of the Zhou dynasty, who was served by five eminent figures, as well as Emperor Guangwu of the Latter Han dynasty, for whom the 28 constellations descended and transformed into the 28 commanders and served him.

(しか)りといえども過去未来をしらざれば父母・主君・師匠の後世をもたすけず不知恩の者なり・

But since such persons know nothing about the past or the future, they cannot assist their parents, their sovereign, or their teacher in making provisions for their future lives, and are therefore unable to repay the debt they owe them.

Despite all this, non-Buddhist teachers are unaware of past and future existences. Thus, they cannot help the afterlife of our parents, sovereign, and master. This means that they cannot repay their debts of gratitude.

まことの賢聖にあらず

Such persons are not true worthies or sages.

Therefore, they are not men of wisdom or sages in a true sense.
