Gosho 御義口伝下 寿量品13

御義口伝に云く、此の品の所詮は久遠(くおん)(じつ)(じょう)なり、

The Record of the Orally TransmittedTeachings says: This chapter as a whole deals with the true attainment in kuon.

久遠とははたらかさず・つくろわず・もとの(まま)と云う義なり、

Kuon means something that was not worked for, that was not improved upon, but that exists just as it always has.

無作の三身なれば初めて成ぜず、是れ(はたら)かざるなり、

Because we are speaking here of the Buddha eternally endowed with the three bodies, it is not a question of something attained for the first time at a certain time, or of something that was worked for.

卅二相(さんじゅうにそう)八十(しゅ)(ごう)を具足せず、是れ(つくろ)わざるなり、

This is not the kind of Buddhahood that is adorned with the thirty-two features and eighty characteristics, or that needs to be improved on in any way.

本有(ほんぬ)常住の仏なれば本の(まま)なり、是を久遠と云うなり、

Because this is the eternally abiding Buddha in his original state, he exists just as he always has. This is what is meant by kuon.

久遠とは南無妙法蓮華経なり(まことに)(ひらけたり)無作(むさ)と開けたるなり云云。

Kuon is Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, and “true attainment” means awakening to the fact that one is eternally endowed with the three bodies.
