南無妙法蓮華経 Nam-myoho-renge-kyo


 
 仏の御意は法華経なり日蓮が・たまし()ひは南無妙法蓮華経に・すぎたるはなし

The Buddha’s will is the Lotus Sutra, but the soul of Nichiren is nothing other than Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.


南無妙法蓮華経は師子吼(ししく)の如し・いかなる病()はりをなすべきや

Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is like the roar of a lion. What sickness can therefore be an obstacle?


 彼の天台の座主(ざす)よりも南無妙法蓮華経と唱ふる癩人(らいにん)とはなるべし

Rather than be the chief priest of the Tendai school, it is better to be a leper who chants Nam-myoho-renge–kyo!


日蓮が慈悲曠大ならば南無妙法蓮華経は万年の外・未来までもながるべし

If Nichiren’s compassion is truly great and encompassing,Nam-myoho-renge-kyo will spread for ten thousand years and more, for all eternity.



 相構え相構えて強盛の大信力を致して南無妙法蓮華経・臨終正念と祈念し給へ

Be resolved to summon forth the great power of faith, and chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo with the prayer that your faith will be steadfast and correct at the moment of death.


 若し然れば貴賤上下をえらばず南無妙法蓮華経と・となうるものは我が身宝塔にして我が身又多宝如来なり

It follows, therefore, that whether eminent or humble, high or low, those who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo are themselves the treasure tower, and, likewise, are themselves the Thus Come One Many Treasures.


 日蓮一人はじめは南無妙法蓮華経と唱へしが、二人・三人・百人と次第に唱へつたふるなり、未来も又しかるべし、是あに地涌の義に非ずや

At first only Nichiren chanted Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, but then two, three, and a hundred followed, chanting and teaching others. Propagation will unfold this way in the future as well. Does this not signify “emerging from the earth”?


 妙とは蘇生の義なり、蘇生と申すはよみがへる義なり

Myo means to revive, that is, to return to life.
